Currents is the electronic news bulletin of the United Nations Development Fund for Women. Published several times per year, it provides up-to-date information briefs on UNIFEM initiatives, successes, events, projects and activities worldwide.

The July 2008 issue of UNIFEM's electronic newsletter reports on two historic developments in the promotion of women's human rights and the empowerment of women: the UN Security Council's adoption of resolution 1820 on women, peace and security, which calls for the immediate cessation of rape and other forms of sexual violence against civilians, and affirms that such acts “can constitute war crimes, crimes against humanity or a constitutive act with respect to genocide”; and the work to incorporate a gender perspective in the Financing for Development process.  read issue   archives
